Not everybody is thrilled about the days getting shorter and the temperatures beginning to drop as fall once again invades Colorado. But if you are the type of person who loves the sound of leaves crunching under your feet and the smell of burning wood, then you must be a lover of fall. But you have yet to truly experience fall until you have experienced fall in the Rockies. The vivid colors of fall in Estes Park will do so much more than just get you a ton of likes on Facebook, your soul will sing as you gaze upon the beauty Colorado has to offer. Here are a couple of things you can do during your stay at Jellystone Park.
Wildlife is indeed abundant in the state of Colorado, and no more so than in and around Estes Park. September and October is the mating season for elk, and it is the best time to encounter these beauties. The bulls round up their desired harems using their prowess and impressive bugle calls. If you are lucky, you might just witness a competition over a female in which strength and virility will prove key to the victor.
For those who would rather avoid any unnecessary clashed with wildlife, the Stanley Hotel hosts a special celebration every October. In celebration of the ghostly character of the hotel, the Shining Ball is held every October 31st. Don’t forget to stop by the hotel’s bar, with more than 700 whiskies on hand, you will no doubt discover a cocktail you will love. Come and enjoy fall in the Rockies.
